I was using Chrome until recently, but I think it kind of hogs memory. Internet Explorer is obviously crap...so Firefox?

I use FF still just because of the plugs. Adblock and ghostery changed my browsing experience years ago and I can never go back.

Firefox + uBlock extension to block ads.
That's what I use. I use Chrome as my backup browser in case some site does not work for me or for testing my own stuff, but those cases are rare.
I have plenty of RAM but I still don't see why Chrome needs to use 400mb of RAM for just one tab.

IE isnt actually that bad these days. really, its not. t just has a realllyyyy shitty rep. then the reason they are changing it to spartan next year

uBlock? Not AdBlock Plus? I've always used ABP and it's great in my opinion.

Got fucking tired of Chrome's BSOD bullshit, So I'm on Firefox now. It's 95% stable, and never crashes my whole machine on the rare times it goes down.
Really can't wait for to 37 to go official already so I can ditch Chrome completely. The beta can do 60 fps on YouTube, but it's not ready for primetime at all, unfortunately.

I was using Chrome until recently when I discovered it was slowing down my computer extremely. Switched back to the old friend Firefox. Now I'm waiting for Mozilla to bring it back to iOS so I can sync everything again.

Firefox + Adblock Plus for several years here.
Tried Chrome a couple years ago, but it just didn't feel right.

On my PC, I use Chrome - it's an utter memory hog, particularly when you have, oh, about 53 tabs open, but I still prefer it to Firefox, IE, Opera and so on - but I recently switched over to using Safari on my Mac, and it's surprisingly good.
I seem to get much smoother performance than I did with Chrome, and I appreciate some of the nifty little UI features—a favourite is the way you can do a pinch gesture to bring up an overview of all your tabs. It isn't perfect, though: my preferred tab-switching keyboard shortcut - cmd, alt, arrow key - doesn't work, I can't find any way to preview link URLs, and I miss having my history and tabs automatically synced with my Google account.

IE is not crap anymore. I still prefer Firefox as my primary browser due to the extensions and add-ons, but IE11 is a pretty great browser in its own right. Especially if you enable EPM - becomes a very hard nut to crack from a security standpoint.
But yeah, I use a heavily add-on'd up Firefox, along with a couple of about:config tweaks.

BSOD = Blue Screen Of Death
37 = Version of firefox. It's on 36 right now. They move from version to version to keep the thing up to date and compatible with new hardware.
Beta = Working, but not entirely stable and usually pre-release version of software.
60 fps = 60 frames per second. Standard is 30 fps, but I watch a lot of gaming stuff on YouTube and they recently enabled this, and it looks awesome. Firefox won't play back 60 fps yet, but this will change with version 37.

Got it. I just didn't know the bsod and the 37 thing. I too enjoy watching 60 fps youtube. Didn't know firefox doesn't support it yet...

I switched recently from ABP to uBlock and it works just the same... and uses less RAM.

Firefox and AdBlock. On the Mac, it's just the best, IMO. I've agonized over Chrome and Safari, giving both a thorough test drive. But Chrome is a serious resource hog, and since I've usually got 10-15 tabs going at a time, FF handles that better than Safari, particularly with Tab Mix Plus. But I use Safari on my MacBook because it's better on battery.
I'm currently going through some soul searching for my mobile browser. Safari works great on the iPhone, but it's absolute hell using it to type replies on Oppo or other Gawker sites. I'm giving Opera and Dolphin a good test drive, but there are things I dislike about each of them, mostly cosmetic. Dolphin seems to do the best with Gawker sites, but Opera has some great features. First world problems....

Chrome has been getting worse and worse for me over the years, but still not enough to switch back to Firefox. I have 16GB of RAM in my home rig (don't judge me it was really cheap), so even when Chrome is hogging it rarely affects performance. It's more the extension crashes and more frequent crashes to desktop that are starting to irk me.
![]() 03/19/2015 at 12:05 |

Why are you worried about Chrome hogging memory?
IMO there isn't any sense in worrying about memory usage until you get disk swapping. It's sort of like worrying about "using too many RPMs" while you're accelerating. It's not really a problem until you hit redline, and as we all know, more RPMs = more speed.
Also, if you think Chrome hogs memory, I don't think you'll find FireFox is any better. On my machines, it's actually worse.
Also also, +1 to Nibby's suggestion to use uBlock. Noticeably faster on all my machines.

IE is not as bad as it used to be. IE11 is pretty quick.
I use Firefox most of the time because of its addons, but if it's taking a long time to load a site I just use IE.

I wish I could say I'd have one soon, but there's no way to guarantee that. It might be the end of the year before I could buy something that pricey. Poverty sux, yo.

I'd use it more if it didn't look terrible and if it had something like tab groups for Firefox.
I use it when I'm in a hurry—it is actually faster (at least for me) than any other.
